Today felt like the perfect day for self-care. It was a beautiful cloudy/rainy day. If you’re like me, you probably have some household or motherly duties that you can’t just toss to the side. Instead, I just incorporate those duties into my self-care regimen. I quietly got out of bed and had my morning coffee then began to prepare breakfast for the family. During this time, you could listen to some inspirational station or videos while you take your time to prepare breakfast. I chose to listen to Christmas music! lolol.
Once I got those must do’s out of the way, I’m free to start my other self-care. As weird as this may sound, I like to begin with a modified pedicure.
I like to sit on the floor after breakfast with my coffee and my bucket full of nail polish and tools and get to work. There are two parts to my pedicure, at this stage I focus on the toes and nail color. I remove the polish, file, shape and buff the nails, then put on a fresh nail color and top coat. I don’t go overboard with the clean up because we get to that part during our soak in the bathtub. This pedicure was extremely special because this polish was the one I wore throughout my teenage years when I would spend my summers in Miami. This is also the color I wore on my first date with my husband. He found it, ordered it and had it delivered. I love how thoughtful he is and how he remembers those special things about us. Theons #5. This color goes on as a shimmery red but when you put on the top coat, the polish turns to a metallic red. AWESOME! I still love it after all these years!!!
Now that we’ve done a portion of our pedicure, I hang out a while and let the polish dry. Once its fairly dry, I run a nice HOT bath and add in the soothing bath salts I made. They are so easy to make, and once you know how you probably will never buy them again. I used the Lavender and Eucalyptus Mint blend. Soooo relaxing. Grab a bluetooth speaker and your phone and find a nice station to transport you to comfort. Take your time and soak away all the troubles from the week. I have this nice book I read that has a host of tips on how to practice self-care everyday. Once I have a nice soak, I wash my face, use my bodywash, an exfoliating scrub and then at the end I use a pumice stone for my feet to get them all smooth and cuddle friendly. The soak will have made any polish you got on your skin to come off on its own. When you step out of the bath you should be ready to lather on some coconut oil or in my case, the coconut oil body butter I made. Last but not least, any self- respecting woman should have a nice spa robe to prance around in while you moisturize. Amazon has a ton of nice ones! I got the waffle robe just like the real spas.
By now, you should feel relaxed and you’re finishing up your skin-care. I like to use this new pore scrub once a week to further smooth out my skin and blot dry. I got this nifty facial steamer for my birthday that came with tools and this cute headband. We steam the face and open up our pores again to prep for a mask. I get a monthly Ipsy box that usually includes cool sheet masks so I picked one of those to sit back and chill with for about 15 minutes. To take it home, I added a few drops of Vitamin E oil to my face and sealed everything in with this Tarte drink of H2O. I highly recommend the PoreDermabrasion and the Tarte drink of H2O. It’s good stuff.
That’s all folks! By the time you’ve done all this you should feel relaxed and ready to take on the week ahead. I don’t always have the time to spend the day doing this but don’t short change yourself. Even if you can only do one these, by all means, take advantage of it. You deserve it!
